Media and Society : Video in Culture, Community and Art

“Films can teach, they can explain and they can move people to great depths. Having done all these things, is it possible for films to move people to action? There is no question for most social scientists that carefully constructed communications, films for instance, can produce changes in attitudes, in those who adequately receive the communication. The use of adequately is of course a conscious one in that we know that people tend to misperceive that which they hear and see, and go through fairly complicated strategies of selective attention and selective perception.” [Challenge for Change programme, National Film Board of Canada (NFB)]

Based on the issue above, my thought is that Films move people to action, it change people attitude towards something. Its gave a huge impact to people in our societies.Different people , different communities will interpret the message from the video differently. Communities , artist, organization and government use videos for a different purpose fro example social awareness , politics , arts, and experimentation on the society. Video is an electronic image types of media.that is effective.

Community video is a media that have a broad spectrum of productions and distribution approaches with a community. It cover some  significant community events. It exposed other community culture , language, history and stories that other communities do not know. It change people perception about their life and the life that other people is facing that they do not know. All this can belong to any communities. For example,"media workers still regularly cover and record important community events within Yuendumu and the surrounding area. These productions have recently been presented and packaged in a news bulletin format (PAW TV News) a similar  approach as seen in the news bulletins of the early days at Warlpiri Media.  PAW TV News is produced for playback on community TV and, where appropriate, for distribution through iCTV as well as newer distribution platforms."
